Transscleral cyclophotocoagulation with diode laser is a surgical operation. The laser is applied to the area of the eye that produces aqueous humour (the ciliary body) to decrease the assembly of liquid and, therefore the intraocular pressure level.
Since it’s a cyclodestructive procedure, it’s usually performed as a second-line treatment, when there’s no possibility of other forms of surgery for glaucoma or when the patient has low vision.
Transscleral cyclophotocoagulation procedure is fast, because it is not intraocular and no incisions or sutures are necessary.
