Confocal Microscope of Heidelberg Engineering is a compact ophthalmic device that uses a confocal scanning laser microscope. This laser technology provides high-resolution images of the cornea, the limbus at the cellular level, and the conjunctiva. The Confocal Microscope’s unique feature provides a three-dimensional image of corneal cells and structures. The microscope provides the field view of up to 400 x 400 μm, meaning that it can scan the cornea in high-resolution images allowing the ophthalmologist to navigate the patient’s eye through all corneal layers.
This comprehensive assessment of the cornea can help eye surgeons to accurately diagnose and monitor the corneal pathologies, dry eye disease, pre/post-surgery evaluation, and evaluate the corneal nerve structure in diabetic patients.
