Dr. Bhagwanti Kumari is a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmologist at Hashmanis Group of Hospitals, Saddar branch. She brings her vast experience of dedicated sub-specialty expertise to children’s eye care in Karachi. She holds the degrees of M.B.B.S, M.C.P.S, and F.C.P.S in Ophthalmology, further distinguished by a competitive Fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology completed in the United Kingdom at Liverpool. Her training in the UK, considred one of the most rigorous and competitive subspecialty environments in the world for paediatric eye care, positions her among a rare group of ophthalmologists in Pakistan with formally recognised international specialist credentials in children’s vision.
Children’s eye conditions require a fundamentally different clinical approach from adult ophthalmology not merely in technique, but in diagnosis, communication, and the urgency of intervention. The visual system in children is still developing until approximately the age of seven to eight years, meaning that untreated conditions such as amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (squint), congenital cataracts, or significant refractive errors during this window can result in permanent visual impairment even after the underlying problem is resolved.
